Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has announced plans to build a nation wide ticketing solution to combat dated systems used around New Zealand. Popular vendor Cubic has been selected for the task and when complete will cover 13 regions across the country. The system should make ridership of trains, bus and ferries more popular with one easier payment options.
Due to the way the system is put together payments can be made by credit and debit cards as well as mobile wallets such as Google Pay and Apple Pay.
The rollout will commence in 2024 and begin in the Canterbury region with Auckland expected to come online by 2025.
Exciting times.
